Movement for Social Justice

MSJ4 is a youth-led organization dedicated to advocating for human rights, promoting good governance, and empowering both youth and women. Established in 2020 and based in Basse, Upper River Region (URR), we aim to create a society where the rights of individuals are respected and upheld, governance is transparent and accountable, and all members of the community, especially young people and women, have the opportunity to thrive.

Taking the lead to fight for social justice, anti-corruption, and human rights in The Gambia by defending the rights of workers, the poor, women, children, and marginalized populations through advocacy, intervention, and legal action.

To create a just society in The Gambia where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, free from corruption, oppression, and human rights violations, with a focus on empowering the youth to be catalysts for positive change.

Areas of Intervention

Governance

We advocate for enhanced governance structures to promote transparency, accountability, and participation in decision-making processes. We work with local governments and community organizations to implement best practices in public administration, ensuring that policies reflect the needs and rights of all citizens.

Human Rights

We are committed to protecting and promoting human rights for all individuals, particularly marginalized groups. Our interventions include monitoring human rights violations, providing legal assistance to victims, and advocating for policy reforms that align with international human rights standards. We collaborate with national and international bodies to raise awareness about human rights issues and support grassroots movements that empower communities.

Youth & Women's Empowerment

Empowering youth and women is central to our mission. We work on programs for development opportunities tailored specifically for young people and women.

Gender Based Violence

Addressing gender-based violence (GBV) is a critical area of our work. We implement comprehensive prevention strategies that include community awareness campaigns and advocacy for stronger legal frameworks against GBV. Our organization collaborates with government and non governmental organizations to create safe spaces while promoting societal change through advocacy programs.

Persons with Disabilities

Our organization strives to ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society. We advocate for accessible environments, inclusive policies, and equal opportunities in education and employment. Through awareness campaigns and partnerships, we work towards dismantling barriers that hinder the full participation of individuals with disabilities in their communities.
